Self-Help Housing Program
Community Action changes people's lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live. We care about the entire community and are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other.
Self-Help Housing
Income qualified clients (low to moderate incomes) with very good credit history can qualify for a USDA/Rural Development 33 year low interest mortgage to construct a new energy efficient single family home. The client pays their down payment costs through sweat equity by helping to construct the house and the houses of others in their construction group, under supervision. This program generally builds single story brick ranch houses of about 1400 square feet, with three bed rooms, one to two baths, and a one or two car garage.
